What's Included in Our Steel Fabrication Service
When you’re comparing steel fabricators in Melbourne, the quotes can look similar on paper until you dig into what’s actually covered. A low headline price often means less included and more variations added once the project is underway. This page sets out exactly what’s standard in a Kelly Steel project, what’s optional, and how our quality assurance holds up against the standards you’d expect from any ISO 9001-certified fabricator.
Whether you’re a builder sourcing structural steel, an engineer specifying a commercial fit-out, or a project manager scoping an industrial job, this breakdown is designed to be checked line-by-line against any other fabricator’s quote.
Standard Inclusions
Every Kelly Steel project commercial, industrial, or residential is delivered through the same ten-stage process, with the following included as standard:
Tendering & scope confirmation
a detailed review of your drawings and specifications before pricing, so the quote reflects the actual job rather than a generic estimate.
Contract award
formal confirmation of scope, price, and program before any work begins, so both sides are working from the same signed-off document.
Project management & documentation
a single point of contact coordinating your project from award to close-out, with full documentation maintained throughout. See our project management service for details.
Engineering, drafting & Quality/Inspection Test Plans (ITPs)
shop drawings and an ITP prepared in-house before fabrication starts. Covered under our design & drafting service.
Certified materials & procurement
steel sourced and certified to the relevant Australian Standard for your project's grade and application.
Cutting, welding, and assembly carried out at our 2,000 m² Dandenong South facility, covering everything from raw steel to finished component.
Standard protective coating
a base level of corrosion protection appropriate to the steel grade and application (see "What's Optional" for upgraded coating systems).
transport of fabricated steel to site, scheduled against your build program.
on-site erection carried out by our own team, not subcontracted out. Full detail on our installation process.
final documentation confirming the completed work meets the agreed specification, provided at project handover.
Every project is also delivered under our ISO 9001 certification, and in line with our membership of the Australian Steel Institute and accreditation with Steel Sustainability Australia company-wide credentials that sit behind all ten stages above, rather than a stage in themselves.
How to Compare This Against Another Quote
If you’re scoping a project across commercial, residential, or industrial steel fabrication, get in touch and we’ll walk you through exactly what’s included for your specific project.
- Check whether project management and documentation are included, or charged as an add-on.
- Confirm whether installation is done in-house or subcontracted this affects both quality control and accountability if something needs to be corrected.
- Ask what coating system is standard versus optional, since corrosion protection is one of the most common places scope gets thinned out.
- Confirm the fabricator's accreditation (ISO 9001, Australian Steel Institute membership, or equivalent) this is a reasonable proxy for consistent quality control across a project.
